On May 3, 2012,Couillard Construction began excavating sand from the site at the corner of Rockhurst and Highway 105.
On June 7, MDDEP issued a Notice of Non-Conformance, requiring the work to be stopped.
On June 29, two months after the work began, Couillard engaged GeoSol to report on the possible effects of the extraction on the Wakefield Spring.

SOS has reacted to the GeoSol report as follows:
Rather than being based on all the information and data available (examination of drill logs or MTQ borehole data,) the report appears to be based on very limited information (topographical maps, surface deposit maps and the reports made by D.Soucy (MTQ) and Parent/Rivard (NRCan)). There is no indication that the consultants visited the site.
It is the consultants’ opinion that the Spring will not be affected by the sandpit excavation because they believe that the spring is fed by surface water and that the sandpit is not in the same watershed.
This opinion is not supported by the more extensive examinations done previously by MTQ and NRCan hydrogeologists.
